LISC is a financial intermediary that provides loans and lines of credit, grants and recoverable grants, and equity investments to help community developers and other partners revitalize their neighborhoods. Community projects typically include: for-sale and rental housing; community facilities such as child care centers, schools, health care facilities, playing fields; and economic development retail and commercial buildings.

In addition, LISC offers a wide range of technical assistance in the fields of affordable housing development, organizational capacity building, and community development.

For almost 30 years, LISC has also provided organizational, business planning, and management systems assistance to local nonprofit housing and community development groups. That assistance typically centers on: financing of real estate development projects; increasing staff technical skill and capacity; organizational development, expansion and crisis intervention; and the effective execution of services under successful proposals. LISC also provides community organizations with various training programs, on- and off-line.
